Tips of the Week

– Part of losing weight means stepping on the scale to check your progress. But what time during the day should you weigh yourself and how often? The time of day should be right after you wake up and use the bathroom. This removes as many variables as possible. But there will still be a slight variation which is why you should only weigh yourself once or twice a week so that this variation won’t impact the downward trend. But if you are one of those people that has to weigh themselves every day, just don’t get discouraged if you add a small fraction of a pound between 2 measurements as this is normal.

– When setting goals for getting in better shape, or for any part of your life, make them as specific as possible. Instead of saying, “I want to lose weight,” say, “I want to lose ____ lbs,” or even better, “I want to lose ____ lbs per week.” Then also list out ways that you are going to complete the goal such as, “I am going to walk a mile on the treadmill every day.” Making your goals this way allows you to test progress and allows you to reward yourself for reaching certain benchmarks.

– Exercising shouldn’t be something that you dread doing everyday. Find an exercise routine that you enjoy such as rock climbing or playing tennis. If you enjoy your routine, it will be much easier to stick to and you should see better results cause you are willing to push yourself more during the workout.
